The valve has a timer mechanism inside that diverts water from a jet every 5-10 minutes. This jet acts as a backrest, taking the cleaner out of the bottom of the pool or wall and avoiding possible jams.
It is designed to be installed in line in the leader hose. It has an arrow on one side of the hose tab that should be facing the cleaner.
